RE: Manufacturers: who has staying power

I don't understand. Is this a dealer survey, or an owner survey ? :?
Interesting Article - Another reason ole Bob will survive
Link to below article so no one thinks it was taken out of context
Tiffin led all motorhome brands in vehicle reliability/quality, competitive price/value, vehicle design and the five other criteria of dealer satisfaction in the Recreational Vehicle Dealers Association's most recent industry-wide annual survey. Tiffin was one of only five motorhome manufacturers to receive the RVDA's coveted Quality Circle Award for 2007. Tiffin has been honored with the Quality Circle nine of the 12 years it has been presented by the RVDA. A total of 527 RV dealers submitted 3,020 ratings in the 2007 satisfaction survey.
In addition to the quality, reliability, price and design categories, Tiffin exceeded the ratings of all manufacturers in parts support, dealership warranty support, overall dealership communications, sales support and sales territory. In the 2007 survey, the RVDA also asked dealers the "Ultimate Question:" How likely would you be to recommend this brand to a friend (in a different market) to handle at his/her dealership?" A total of 84.4% of dealers responded positively on Tiffin, while only 42.4 percent of dealers responded positively for all motorhome manufacturers.
When negative responses to the question were deleted to calculate "Net Promoter Scores," Tiffin's 81.3 percent mark was even more dramatic compared with the 12.2 percent for all motorhome manufacturers. The "Ultimate Question" and the "Net Promoter Score" were developed by Fred Reichheld, recognized by Consulting Magazine as one of the world's top 25 consultants.

RE: Fix Handling:

Come on. What fun would it be not to speculate, and add our 2 cents worth ?? :B
PLEASE, no more advice until we know what chassis he has. A great suggestion on a Ford F53 may be totally irrelevant for a Workhorse P chassis.
Also, to the OP, the more information you provide, the better the answers we can give.
Things like actual axle weights vs GAWR, wheelbase/Overall length, what you find objectionable about the handling (and what conditions you experience them under, etc).
Also, what a $1,500 front end alignment on a 2008 chassis consisted of?????

RE: Manufacturers: who has staying power

Funny thing about good service at the factory. I have 2 friends that have Allegro Buses('06, and '07) , and when we were in Key West last winter, they both called to try to get some reoccuring problems fixed. Sure, she said, I'll be able to get you in in March. Great, that's only a month from now. Ahhh, I meant March of 2009. 13 month wait at that time, don't know what it is now, but one guy just drove, and left it there, and flew back to NH. I'll see them both in a couple of months, and see how they made out. I guess the best customer service would be not to have to go back to the factory, to have anything fixed at all.

RE: Manufacturers: who has staying power

Sir, I believe this very fact was pointed out by several of us in previous posts, unless, of course, you weren't "sold" on our comments . :B
It seems some people are confused by the word sold, like it depends on what the meaning of IS is. Sold is just that, sold. It does not mean it is sold to the end user, dealers do buy Mhs for their inventory but it is sold, to the dealer. What that means is they do not build a Mh and park it on the lot until someone comes along and wants it. Each Mh that comes off of the line has been ordered and optioned out to the buyers specs whether it be a dealer or end user, it is still sold. Why do some people make simple things complicated things?

RE: Manufacturers: who has staying power

I went to a Newmar dealer in northern FL in April, and they had at least a dozen models on the lot for sale. They may build on a "per sold" basis, but it may be the dealer that is the "per sold", not an actual customer.
Newmar, Monaco have already applied for financial loans to stay in business.
Ray,
I asked this earlier in a previous post and I guess you did not see it....
I would also like to know where this information about Newmar came from. I asked you to supply the source of where Newmar had to
"apply for a financial loan to stay in business."
I have a Newmar and would like to know where you got this information. I am not aware of it. As far as I know this is still the fact ---- Newmar does not build a coach that is not already sold before it hits the assembly line. That has been their business model for years.
I am not saying it is not true but I am not aware of it and I would like to see where you got the information and read it.

RE: Manufacturers: who has staying power

Ahh, HR is Monaco. And, is Foretravel 1 or 2, in the market? :?
I would agree that Winnebago would probably be the last one to go. Newmar, Monaco have already applied for financial loans to stay in business. There is a thread in this forum about the financial problems with Monaco. In my opinion the one that would survive a real bad recession would be a company that is diversified and sells more then just engine powered coaches. It would have to sell travel trailers, fifth wheel type trailers, gas coaches and diesel powered coaches. If they are not diversified I would have to say they are in trouble.
Holiday Rambler does sell 5th wheels and diversification works two ways too. Yes you have different product to sell but your costs go up and your potential earnings go down. It matters more that you are number one or two in your market than if you sell 5th wheels or tag alongs.

RE: welding on RV

ROFLMAO!
Electronic snake oil! If you want to spend $68 on that thing, go ahead. I'm just going to let the battery itself provide the same protection.
Best of luck to ya! I guess if you welded on a daily basis, you would see the consequences of not unhooking the neg cable, or providing surge protection. We've had to replace the computers/ modules, on two different vehicles, it really sucks when the computers/modules are worth more than the vehicle....
As to a question brought by earlier in the thread about multiple batteries, it's best to protect at both of them, or disconnect the neg on all.
Right you are. Here is the actual sequence of disconnect, before striking an arc. 1st: all batteries, 2nd: ALL ECM's, 3rd: get good ground as close as possible to area you are welding (grind away ALL rust and paint). 4th: protect all ajacent areas w/welding blanket. Good luck !

RE: Where to find 31' wiper blade refills

I would prefer to loose an inch or two as to add to the wiper motor load. I could be a non issue however.
I just went from 26's, to 32's. Best 110 bucks I've spent in a while. We managed to hit that snow storm in NY, and NJ, the other day on the way from NH, to Tampa. Now we can actually see out of the windshied when it rains. (I don't EVER plan to be in the snow again !) :p

RE: Wiper Blades vs Refills..??

NAPA crossed mine last week, from the Trico # you have. 54 bucks ea. I went from the 26", to the 32". I can find the outfit in NC that sells them for $85.00 delivered (if you want the site address). Other than that, I haven't been able to find refills for the 32". Robbie
I am the one that started the other thread regarding replacing my 32" windshield wipers. So far i have not had any success with any of the local jobbers in my search for 32 " wipers . The Trico # is 67-321 and the Tru Vision # is 23-6336. The closest find was Trico at a Car Quest jobber , he called his supplier and they told him that they had them but he would need to buy a quantity of 10. No luck. So here are the results of my research. Camping World ,$40.00 ea.,plus shipping. RV Wholesalers,$28.92 ea. ,plus $9.95 shipping.Yesterday i was in the Cocoa Beach,Fl. area and stopped into a Motor Home Dealer and they said we don't have them in stock but we can order them for you for $ 59.00 ea. As it looks right now the RV Wholesaler is the best price. Someone did advise me to call Tiffin Motor Homes , (my builder ) and ask them for a quote which i have not yet done. Thanks to all that have tried to help.

RE: Wiper Blades vs Refills..??

DENSO makes blades and and refills for most sizes of coaches.
Tru-vision supplies many blades up to 32 inches. Available through most RV stores that deals with NTP.
Thanx for the info, but what is "NTP" ? Robbie

RE: DVR Receivers

DirecTv DVR, plugged in, goin' down the road, for 2 years now. Still works fine.(I did open the cabinet door when we used it in the other rig, to cool it down, but in this one, it's in an open space). WTF, just jinxed myself !!! :S
Another thought ... There is exactly one part in the average DVR that is most delicate when it comes to shock.. The hard drive
Same as in your laptop
And how many RVers run with computers (Of the forum users only about 100%) How many of us have had a laptop fail due to a physical "Bounce"... (Well, if you drop them from height, but never from driving the RV less the RV's mortal remains are best described by "Film at Eleven"

RE: Wiper Blades vs Refills..??

I've always wondered why people bring up truck shops when wipers are mention? Anyone ever seen a big truck with a windshield as big as a MH?
Here's what happened to me last week. I needed larger than 26" blades, as my WS is large enough to throw a medium size cow through. The blind spot in the middle was dangerous, soooooooo....I went to my buddy who runs an RV repair shop, and he gave me a Trico #, which, as far as I know, is the longest WB made. 32" ! I got them thru cross referencing, for 116 bucks a pair, at NAPA. I found them on line from an outfit on NC for about $85/pair, delivered, BUT, when I do conversions, I like to look at the piece in my hand. After redrilling the holes in the blades, to make them longer on one end, I now have a managable blind spot, in the middle of the WS. I have not found refills for this blade. If I need new ones, it'll have to be new blades all over again. But this time I can save some dough by ordering from NC. If anyone out there KNOWS where I can get 32" refills, feel free to clue me in. No, Trico doesn't carry them. Robbie

RE: mirror adhesive

the bedroom mirror came to rest on the bed after a recent trip. It was installed by 6 or so long strips of double-sticky rubbery tape. It isn't foam tape as commonly found in stores, but much denser. Does anyone know what this tape is? and where to find it? Or is the standard foam tape just as good for this use?
thanks
Gary
You didn't say whether the tape stayed attached to the mirror, or is still on the wall. May make a difference as to the product you decide on. Robbie

I believe you want the 3M, double sided, heavy duty, sticky tape. Try Lowes/HD, or on line. I still have a roll (2" wide) that we used in the machine shop to hold down flat, circular pieces of metal to the table, to be machined. That''s how strong it is. Robbie

RE: Sun shade front windows

We have an 08 Sightseer 35J. You have to be careful on the clearance for the pull down shades...the shades at CW are too thick to fit in the space between the night curtain rail and window. I called Lichenstin and they checked with Winnie and ones that will fit are in the mail as I write this...around $50 each. We had these on our Winnie 35U and they were great. If you want to pursue this, let me know and I'll get the details from the other computer.
My shade was too wide, as well. I just moved the curtain rail a bit, and the shade fit right in. Robbie
